Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, writes a letter to the Christians in the New Testament book of Ephesians. Most likely, Paul is under house arrest or in jail for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in this Roman-occupied territory. Paul refers to himself as an apostle, which means called out or set apart. He fits this description because God called him by His voice to follow Him while he traveled the Damascus Road and was up to no good. Through this dramatically unexpected experience, Paul understood that God had his hand upon his life for a greater purpose than his current job of killing Christians and thwarting the truth of who Jesus was. His life was forever changed.
It's not about the size of your task for God that matters but your response to His call. God's calendar spans from the beginning to the end, and He already knows the perfect time to call and empower those who respond in faith. From the dawn of time, God has known that not everyone will respond, but He eagerly welcomes those who come to Him into His eternal family.
So, tremendous or small things are not the question, but instead, will you respond to him as Savior and do the work he has called you to do?
Maybe you will not be like Jeremiah, a mighty prophet to the nations.
"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
Jeremiah 1:5 NIV
Yet, you share quietly one-on-one with the woman in line at the grocery store or during a hospital visit.
Maybe there's no dramatic scene with bright lights, a booming voice, or blindness like Paul experienced on the road to Damascus.
"But the Lord said to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles, their kings, and the people of Israel."
Acts 9:15 NIV
But you take that late-night call from a friend who is about to give up and help them see the one who is Truth and Light.
Doing big or small things is not of great importance. Rather, surrendering to God to do those things He calls You to do... That is what matters, and it's already on His calendar.
"Yet to all who receive Him, to those who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."
John 1:12
