"I'll pray for you." How many times have you heard this phrase? Better yet, how many times have you said it? It's an easy roll off the tongue. Though good intentions are there in the moment, I don't know about you, but distractions sometimes creep in, and before I know it, my focus is elsewhere. The end of that scenario is that sometimes, I fail to pray. Why is that? I remember to breathe, eat, or sleep, all essential to sustain life.
What if we thought of prayer as necessary to maintain our spiritual lives? Food nourishes the physical body, and prayer fortifies the spiritual body to have a growing relationship with God. When prayer is absent, it is like a long-lost friend, someone you used to share almost everything with. So, it is with prayer. When we neglect to pray, we lose touch with the One who has always been there through the good and bad, thick and thin, and the ups and downs of this gift called life. So, when you say, "I'll pray for you," stop right then and there and do just that. Resist the distractions the tempter throws your way. Pray. It's a win-win as it will bless you as you pray on behalf of others.
When you want to quit - pray.
When you want to advance - pray.
When you feel alone - pray.
When you feel cared for - pray.
When you have judged - pray.
When you have been judged - pray.
When you are regretful - pray.
When you are thankful - pray.
When you are grieving - pray.
When you are rejoicing - pray.
When you are worried - pray.
When you are at peace - pray.
When you are in need - pray.
When you have an abundance - pray.
When you are mistreated - pray.
When you are shown love - pray.
When you are angry - pray.
When you are joyful - pray.
When you are without hope - pray.
When you are hopeful - pray.
When you are without words - pray.
When you are overjoyed - pray.
For this reason, also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, that the Spirit gives.
Colossians 1:9 NIV
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV
